Underglaze

Kozan I’ s studies evolved into the development of various coloured glazes. He shifted to the creation of porcelain from pottery and the style of his work changed accordingly. What gained him particularly high acclaim were underglaze polychrome works. Underglaze painting produces great colours by being fired at high temperature. This technique enabled his to realise subtlety gradated colours and depth expression. Underglaze polychrome featured in the style of the Makuzu workshop after 1887.
